It’s well suited for hand building and is handy if you work with polymer clay. The straight wire makes a clean cut when you are faceting thrown objects and the curly wire gives a great texture.
8.88" wide x 3.2" tall
It’s a wire tool with a handle. It can easily cut a plug of clay coming out of a 4 inch pug mill or cut a spout on an angle before attaching it the pot; it’s like an extra hand if you’re cutting clay off an extruder. Made with stainless steel and a comfortable polymer handle. Can be used with a straight or curly wire. Replacement wires are available in either straight or curly designs. The Mudcutter is slightly larger than the Carving Bow, thus the wires are specific for each tool.
Replacement wires are available in straight or curly styles. The straight wire is for smooth cutting and the curly wire produces a pattern. Three wires per package.

They’re easy to care for, extremely versatile, and a great choice for schools and art centers where pots are often left on bats for long periods of time.
Our Plastic Bats are textured on both sides so clay adheres equally well on either surface: a true "two-sided" bat. They are cut from a high-quality marine grade High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), which is produced using a patented extrusion process. This ensures perfect flatness of every sheet and every bat!
StudioPro Foam Trimming Bats offer a superior alternative to adhering the rims of pots to the wheelhead using clay coils. Because pots are held in place by the foam and not stuck down, you have the ability to lift and inspect your piece frequently during trimming. The foam also protects your pot's rim from damage while inverted on the bat. Pots can be easily centered using the concentric rings on the bats as a guide.
Our Trimming Bats are made using foam selected for just the right density and grip. Keep in mind that the thicker the foam, the more unsteady smaller pieces will be during trimming, so be sure to select the correct thickness for your pots. For example, 1/4 ” foam works well for smaller, lighter work without extreme rim alteration. Whereas 3/4" foam is best used for heavier pieces or pots with uneven rims that need more protection.
Foam is adhered to a 14” or 18" StudioPro Signature bat to ensure rigidity and long wear.

These bats offer greater rigidity then our tempered hardboard bats but with similar absorbency. Our versatile Medex bats are an excellent choice for all kinds of studio environments.
Our Medex bats have a great clay adhesion and bottom drying. Their increased rigidity keeps pot rims true when lifting them off the wheel head.
StudioPro Polygon Bats are perfect for potters interested in faceting and folliating rims or otherwise creating geometry in their work other than the circle. Our Polygon Bats provide geometric reference right on the bat, which eliminates the need for placing a decorating disk on the wet pot.
These bats are made from an exterior grade medium density fiber board (MDF) and are 1/2" thick to provide excellent rigidity. They provide great clay adhesion and feature “bullnose" edges and rounded corners for smoothness and easy removal from pins.

The Studio Pro Rim Finishing Rib is designed to work in conjunction with StudioPro Rim Templates. It's two sized elliptical profiles are used to create a nice tapered rim on edges which have been cut using a rim template and wire cutter. Because it is flexible, many edges can be achieved by bending or tilting the rib. The rounded sides also work as a standard forming rib.
StudioPro Rim Templates are designed to create various rim patterns on open forms such as plates and bowls. Simply center the template on the oversized rim of a freshly thrown pot. Using a Mudtools Carving Bow or similar wire cutting tool and the template as a guide, cut away the extra clay. Leave the cut edge, smooth it with a sponge or reform it with a Studio Pro Rim Finishing Rib. Available in salad plate, dinner plate and platter sizes. Great for making sets!
StudioPro Signature Bats combine the most desirable features of all our other bats. They are a perfect choice for the potter who wants to invest in the best bat at a great value.
These premium bats are made from an exterior grade medium density fiber board (MDF). They are 1/2" thick to provide excellent rigidity and also absorbent enough to provide great clay adhesion.
